What a day for the pair of tight ends. Both signed new contracts with their respective teams today.

George Kittle was the first deal to get done, penning a new 5-year deal with the 49er’s. The Pro Bowl tight end has a great 2019 season, finishing the year with 85 receptions for a total of 1053 yards and 5 TD’s en route to a Super Bowl appearance. Kittle did not have to best of times during Super Bowl 54, only managing 4 catches for a modest total of 36 yards and no TD’s. Make no mistake however George Kittle is a beast of a tight end who is more of a blocking TE than a receiving one. His new deal is well deserved.

Then came the news just hours after George Kittle’s deal was announced, Travis Kelce and Kansas City came to an agreement on a new bumper deal. Despite still having two years to run on his current 5 year $46 million deal the Chiefs decide to tie their star tight end down for a total of 6 years altogether. Kelce a Pro Bowl tight end too like Kittle had a great 2019 season with nearly identical stats to the 49er’s star. Kelce caught 97 passes for 1229 yards and 5 TD’s while managing a respectable 12.7 yards per catch. Kelce fared better than Kittle in Super Bowl 54, grabbing 6 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs come from behind win.

Both are stars for the NFL and will be for many years to come with highlight plays week after week and with their value on the open market only getting bigger it was a good move from both franchises to lock up their stars.

A great bit of business for both The 49er’s and Chiefs here, signing there attacking weapons for 5 years and 6 years respectively while not breaking the bank at the same time.
