Saquon’s Barkley’s father incredibly will be repping the green, not blue, this Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
Alibay Barkley, a diehard Jets fan with a tattoo of the team’s logo on his left forearm, is planning to wear a Joe Namath jersey when the two local teams square off, Saquon Barkley said after Giants practice Thursday.
“It’s kind of weird because he has a Jets tattoo, so even if he wears a Saquon Barkley jersey he’s still repping the Jets. My dad, if you ever met my dad, you know he’s been a Jets fan his whole life,” Saquon Barkley said. “Is he going to root for the Jets? Yes. But he’s going to root for the Giants and his son at the same time.
“So he gets the best of both worlds, watching his team that he grew up rooting for and getting to watch his son live his dream.”
The second-year running back later clarified to say his father will root for the Giants to win the game, regardless of his attire. He added that he gifted the replica Namath jersey to his father before he was drafted by Big Blue out of Penn State in 2018.
“The win is for us, but I think what he said is probably he’s probably gonna wear a Jets jersey,” Saquon Barkley said. “That’s going to be an interesting. … I was a Jets fan growing up, too, it’s going to be a fun little competition in the Barkley house.”
This will be Barkley’s first appearance against the Jets, missing the 2018 preseason game with a sore hamstring before being held out of this summer’s exhibition slate.
